What do you give a seven-year old girl who has everything? Julie didn’t need asking about her birthday present twice - a new room!
We moved here three years ago, just before her fourth birthday. I’d created a pretty girl’s room featuring pink panelling, a polka dot play house, a cute little sitting area and a junior bed.
She’s now almost seven and ready for a change.
Her instructions were clear. Her new room had to be cool, incorporate cheetahs and contain absolutely no pink.
Which certainly gave me plenty to work with! I then came across the Safari Dusk wallpaper from Roomblush, which was the perfect match to her exacting requirements.
I like to take a different approach to tackling this type of project. So, rather than simply wallpapering the entire wall, I decided to create a life size-painting to serve as a centrepiece. I did this by cutting out an eye-catching section of the wallpaper and fashioning a picture frame from skirting boards from the DIY store to complete the effect.
I lastly furnished Julie’s refreshed room with a black four-poster bed (black is indisputably cool), rattan accessories and a vintage desk.
Julie is over the moon with her new room, which more than lives up to her expectations.
Suffice to say; it was an extremely well-received gift!
